Review of manuscript to note the level of editing required, the completeness of the information, and any potential problems or questions.
All of the facets of editing, and in addition, close collaboration with authors to create workable manuscripts. The focus is on suitability for the correct market, achieving a positive competitive position, developing features and benefits, and bringing all parts of the book (design, art program, content, editorial concerns) into a cohesive whole.
Includes both hard copy and electronic editing. We follow Chicago, APA, and MLA styles, using others as requested. The level of editing depends on the condition of the manuscript and the requirements of the publisher and/or author. Editing will fall into the following categories:
Basic editing provides simple and routine correction for typography; checking elements and logical flow; minimal changes in grammar, spelling, punctuation; and type coding.
Heavy editing will include all the basic corrections with special attention to increased needs for rewrites, expanded correction of basics, and attention to flow or focus problems.
Review of pages with manuscript after layout and typesetting to correct any typos, loose lines, inaccurate headers or footers, incorrect references to tables or figures, and any other basic errors. Also includes review of look and suitability of page layout.
Preparation of subject, author, and other specialized indexes as requested. We have prepared hundreds of indexes covering a wide array of disciplines. Our philosophy regarding indexing is this: An index is not just another element in a textbook -- it is a critical marketing element of a textbook. With that in mind, we prepare very detailed, professional-looking indexes that help publishers and authors sell books.
Reviewing art and text materials to verify that correct permissions have been granted for usage; creating permissions logs and obtaining permissions.
With your market and readership in mind, creation of crisp, clean, eye-catching designs that reflect and flow with your manuscript.
Includes author contact, scheduling, tracking shipments to and from publishers and authors, coordinating composition, and, if required, managing the printing process. Weekly written reports are sent to the client advising the status of the project relative to schedule and objectives, as well as flagging any issues or problems.
Communication with authors throughout editing and/or production process.
For your textbook, review and editing of pedagogical elements such as footnotes/endnotes; references; problems and examples, boxes, tables, and artwork; ancillary publications such as test banks and instructors' manuals.
